oh no! don't be too impressed! i looked it up, you know~ although there was a time when i was *learning* irish gaelic~ i had tapes and a book and it was complicated! do you speak gaelic? i believe it is no longer taught in schools, correct? did you/do you speak it at home? do you know a girl on livejournal who asks too many questions? m'kay then. *mwa*
thats even more impressive ... learning Irish from Chicago. its difficult enough learning it on irish soil. its not he most accesible language
i studied irish for 12/13 years at school, like the rest of my piers and still at best would be only conversational in the language.
it's one of our core subjects through out our school years so everybody still studies but only a minority are fluent. that must be down to the method of teaching the language, we studied French for five/six years towards the latter end of our schooling and my Francais would be as good (or as bad) as my Gaeilge.
its still very much part of our Irish lifestyle, as everyone has at least a cupla focal (a few words).
