CCP Study Sessions

Mar 13, 2006 23:35

I read an interesting New York Times article about mandatory study sessions for Chinese Communist Party members. Apparently (at least according to the article) the sessions are intended to revitalize a troubled Party undergoing a credibility crisis.

The article was a great read, especially for people like me who are really interested in the inner workings of the CCP. Given its an NYT article, and NYT has a distinctly anti-CCP slant in almost all their articles, so clearly the article had a between-the-lines message that the Party was faltering. Sometimes I worry that NYT gets too excited about various signs that the CCP is in trouble. But still, the author had an interesting point. One of my main study interests is the role of ideology in the modern day CCP, so it's interesting to hear that stuff like this is largely falling on deaf ears. I just wish I could attend one of these sessions, though I'm sure they'd never let me in.
