Okay. So, I feel like hammered crap today and I want a post to just spew out my perverted, slightly bitchy mind, get some meta-like stuff out, and have some lulz while doing it. I don't need a real reason, yo. And so I went and raided and pillaged some tumblrs like a goddamn internet viking and thus I bring you the reason of how/why my Arthur is a slutty little tease while simultaneously being a subtle alpha.AKA IS A BAD-ASS BITCH AND ENJOYS IT , EAMES.
Now, we all know Eames is a total whore hot mess filthy cockslut Arthur's sugar-daddy with the huge dick and arms totally gorgeous creature. And usually he's the one Arthur chases/pursues. Or at least that's what I've seen around the fandom and while I can see WHY, obviously,

There's also the fact my Arthur avoids most relationships and will only possibly try if he feels the other person really wants to. He needs to know they not only want to be with him for more than just sex but also in that they will actually try like he will. He doesn't want to be the only one putting anything into it. Relationships take time and energy and while my Arthur hasn't had many in his life, his common sense tells him this and he knows that's the only way they work in the end. He doesn't want to bother wasting the time and energy on someone who's not interested. What's the point? My Arthur hates things that are pointless and are a waste of time. (And Arthur, from what we see in the movie, seems of the same mind. Just sayin.')
Now, if some people want to imagine that Arthur would chase Eames, take his rejections, and all that jazz that's fine. That's them, that's what they want or how they see it. They are entitled to have/want that.
However, while they are entitled to that and have their opinions on the matter, I AM ENTITLED TO PRESENT MY CASE AS WELL.

He calls people out on their shit and demands people think things through (which requires, what? yes. SPECIFICITY.) And, he gives as good as he gets; case in point: all the banter/bickering/chemistry and eye-sex he and Eames had in the movie. Also, Eames had his grenade launcher in the first level but we all saw what Arthur did in the second level and, really. That was fucking boss and you all know it. And being creative enough to come up with the solution he did after missing the first kick took not only imagination and grit but ingenuity. Seriously, the guy is smart and pretty damn bold. Don't undermine that by having him be some stupid, passive git in the waking world. It's actually pretty damn insulting to the character, tbh. : \
There is also the fact that Arthur respects himself too much to waste his time chasing anyone who is obviously not interested. At least it seems obvious to me by the way he presents himself and holds himself. Just because he let Yusuf experiment on him in testing the sedative and made him look like a doofus doesn't mean he'll let just anyone do that to him; he was doing it for the team (as corny as that sounds) and because he wanted to make sure when they went under that the shit would work. He's familiar enough with the business by then to know what works, when it's working, and when something just isn't going to fly when they perform the job. It's work; the same standards will not apply to his personal life and I think it's pretty damn short-sighted and ignorant to think they would (also, lacks the complexity that most people have automatically when going from work-mode to off-the-job).
For my Arthur especially, he would find such a thing as chasing someone else a waste of time and energy as well as degrading to himself and he refuses to do anything like that.
Now, saying that may seem contradictory in light of how I tend to describe my Arthur as a "slut" sometimes. But the thing is, other than me just tossing that word around, my Arthur knows he looks good and he likes making people want him - and then denying them. That's not to say he isn't interested, he just likes to make most of them work for it. Because he thinks he's worth that much. Now, is that a double-standard in how he behaves with others when he wants them? Fuck yeah it is. Most people have them. It comes along with having bad habits, prejudices, biases, and faults in general. Some people may not want to try and make their characterization of Arthur very complex and I can understand that - some people just want to write fic or play RP for fun and that's fine. But don't expect people like me to not have my own opinion in how making a character have depth makes them more interesting to write and play. I think it also just makes for better reading and tagging but, that's my opinion, ultimately.

By now some people would probably be going 'who cares? he's not even real, why should it matter?' Sure, he is just a fictional character but if I'm going to spend time and energy on him you can bet your ass I'll make it worth the time and effort by actually making him a complex being with at least something resembling depth.
