a real update

I suppose I should give some sort of a real update.

First, I have been moved yet again at work. I am now at Lilly Corporate Center. I originally was not very enthusiastic about the move, but seeing how happy people were to have me, it was difficult to be cranky for too long. I’m going to miss Melissa, the close parking, and free snacks though. I’ll be getting more exercise over here with all of the walking I have to do, no free snacks although I’ll have to be careful with all of the choices over here, plus the driving time is much shorter. I am also much closer to campus, so the benefits outweigh the negatives. And Melissa and I still talk all the time. I was fortunate to have been able to work so closely with one of my best friends for so long anyways.

I turned my social work application in on Feb 1. I was told that since I turned it in before the priority date that I will get a response by March 31. I’m trying not to think about it too much, but I will be more on the look out mid-March. Everyone and their mother will know if I get in. I do have Derrick to thank for profusely for helping me get on the right path. I have been wanting to go back to school for so long but I just couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do. After talking to him one day, he told me about social work and it instantly made sense. Thank you so much Derrick for helping me find my way and leading me on the right path. I’m forever thankful, whether or not I get in. I already have a backup plan in case I don’t get in: first try to get into the social work bachelor’s program, if I can’t do that then working on a psych and soc minor if possible, or possibly a major, whatever will work out so that I can continue with school and re-apply for the program next year. I’m not willing to not be in school during that time. Plus I have a great interest in both topics, and it will greatly help me in social work.

This past weekend I went up to Fort Wayne to present at the Youth Summit Conference for EARPS (Exotic Animal Rescue Pet Sanctuary). It went pretty well. Justin and I got a hotel the night before, Hyatt Place. I definitely do not recommend them. They do not have any direction for if you want to get something to eat, there are no signs any where describing any processes. And they had attitude (at the one in Fort Wayne that is). I was further annoyed with the fact that the fire alarm went off at 1am when I had to be up at 7…yeah I was not a happy Jenni. The overall experience was fine though. And its giving the rescue a lot more exposure which is what we really need.

I booked Justin and I’s New York trip a few weeks ago. One of my worries was that as soon as I did that, something major would go wrong with Justin’s jeep. It’s a 1996. Next day Justin takes it in for an oil change and finds out that coolant is leaking somewhere -_-. Fantastic. My dad took a look at it and said it might be a hose and that it shouldn’t cost too much. That night we went to Morty’s comedy joint to see Ralphie May perform. It was one of the best shows Justin and I have ever been too. He went an hour over on his material and stayed after for autographs and pictures (I have one on Facebook, its dark because it’s a cell pic). I was in a fantastic mood because of it, until on the way home my car starts shaking like crazy. I’ve never had a flat tire, but it was shaking so bad with the loud noise that I pulled over. Right front tire had gone flat. I called Justin several times, but he had his headphones in so he couldn’t hear me, so I ended up having to call my Dad out there. Needless to say I wasn’t too happy about that. Nor was I happy about the fact that my dad said that I really needed to get all of the tires changed immediately rather than waiting until March to do so. Didn’t get home till around 1 and I had to get up at 5. A true testament to how good Ralphie May’s show was, I still had a smile on my face when I got up. It also helped that my dad called and said that as an early birthday present he would pay for the tires. So freaking thankful. Especially since the alignment had to be fixed as well.

I’m keeping myself pretty busy with school, EARPs, and Big Brothers Big Sisters. School especially is intense. My child psych class is online and I’m really wishing I had taken the lecture instead because there is so much reading. We have to do a chapter a week, with tests being every three weeks. During that time we are expected to read another chapter while studying for the test. It is very intense and I am barely keeping up. My decision to stay on campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 6 has helped me catch up though. It is such a pain in the ass to try and get off campus at 4:15. I spend at least a half hour trying to get OFF campus and then another 15 easily trying to merge onto the highway. At 6 there is virtually no traffic on campus or near the highway.

That’s pretty much all that I can think of that has been going on. I’m sorry to all those who have called me who I haven’t gotten back to. I have said it before but I need to reiterate it again: I royally suck on the phone. I can’t multi-task while on it (except while driving, and when I’m driving, there is usually either too much traffic, or not enough time to have a good conversation) so I have to set aside specific time. I’ve spent a lot of my free time just vegging out. Its not because I hate anyone, its just one of my social foibles I need to be better about. I do hope that everyone is doing well and bless you if you actually got through all of this!
