The London Bristol Invasion 2006 - Review

Jun 25, 2006 23:06

Hellooo! I am here! Recovering after my trip down south. In all honesty, I feel far more refreshed after travelling constantly for 4 days. I remember how much I like to travel on my own now, and be blissfully unaware of dangers and the excitment that lies ahead of every step. Yay! :D

Firstly, I gotta thank my awesome God for making my trip even better than it was already. My few niggling fears of the trip would be me to get travel sick whilst on the buses and trains, but my nausea was non-existant, and even better I managed to get a good hour or 2 kip on both buses! Yay! :D Also, my other fear was the weather being nasty. Didn't really wanna spend 4 days travelling to and fro with wet clothes. But everything turned out great, and we had marvellous sunshine throughout the entirety of my trip. God is MINT! :D

So, I woke up at 5 o'clock on wednesday morning and moped around a bit before getting transported into Manchester and taking the magic Megabus to London. The buses are quite nice - air conditioning (sometimes a bit too much), pretty much horizontally reclining seats, quiet, smooth ride... yeah! I'm gonna go on the megabus again! I like it :) So yeah, I was very excitable, and was in London before I realised it. I was mildly amused at the traffic jam we sat in for half an hour just at the point in the road which said "Congestion Charging begins from here". Imagine paying to sit in congestion. Dearie me. Anyway, I found my beautiful Valerie who furnished me with an Oyster Card, and before long I was wandering the streets of London with her in wonderful sunshine.

It's common knowledge to all that know me that I'm just not your average girl, right? And I am DEFINATELY not one of them who agree with make-up. Valerie, however, cornered me in the toilet and curled my eyelashes and attacked me with mascara. AND she put clip on ear-rings on me! Eeeee.... you see, she invited me to a Law Party. No, not a party for my family, a party for those in the lawyer world. I didn't understand, but it was fun. There was a barbecue, and a disco. Very exciting and funny stuff! Fun fun fun! :D Went for a walk in night time London after that, and saw some pretty lights on the river Thames. Got back to Val's at around 12, and went to sleep knackered at 1. Eighteen hour day - not bad! :D

Next day, I packed all my stuff into my one small rucksack, and we set off to explore Covent Gardens. We had breakfast/lunch in the Sausage and Mash Cafe (I only realised that she'd taken me into a cafe that proudly bore the words "S&M Cafe" on the front after we'd eaten, but it was too late by then). Covent Garden's is very nice, very busy, and the sorta place a tourist would really feel at home. However, I like it for one shop: the London Transport Museum Shop, where everything transporty could be bought there, from London Underground maps, to the 159 bus route t-shirts. My favourite though - my london underground coloured felt tip pens with the names of each line on them! Oh yes, they are BRILLIANT! :D And the only item that I bought for myself in this entire trip! Yay! :D

Very soon, I was magicked onto the Megabus again and headed towards Bristol. Drama on the way though - the bus driver's windscreen cracked all the way across when we were half way there so we had to wait for a new bus. The delay only cost us an extra half hour, and very soon I was in the wonderful company of my friend CLARE! Wooooo! We went to Pizza Express, and then went back to hers to chill. She showed me round her (absolutely huge) house, and then started to wrestle a hoover into it's box. It never did get into the box so she gave up. We caught up on lots of news and stuff before shlumping into bed.

Had to get up bright and early the next day to help Clare wrestle the hoover into the car, and then wander down the street with it to return with another one about 2 minutes after. This poor hoover that I'm talking about suffered a tragic fall down the stairs, but now it has been replaced by a shiney new Henry hoover, so all is good. Clare dropped me off in the center of Bristol and buzzed off to her course, while I was left to explore Bristol on my own. :D

I didn't end up getting very far - I needed caffeine so naturally I stopped off at a tea shop and had my morning tea. Read for a bit, then carried on down the infamous Park Street (that's quite a hill). Ended up by the Harbourside (yes, it is a harbour) and sat in the sun to read some more. Visited the IMAX theatre nearby (their loo was of more interest to me than any actual films) and then set off back into the sun to wait for Martin.

I love being vague sometimes to see how much information people need in order to understand what I'm on about. On this occasion, Martin was very in tune with me, and found me even with my vague description of the location I was sat in. We spent a lazy afternoon wandering the streets of Bristol, and having a laugh. Met up with Roy to have tea eventually, and it was really nice to see him. Shame there wasn't more time to hang out with him though. :( Went to Bristol Young Adult Fellowship after that, and I enjoyed being in the company of Christians who were completely new to bm, but share something with me even before I got there. Yay. We went to eat after that and had mucho fun learning how to use chopsticks and how to further ridicule the wonderful Martin... we shan't go into that again. :) Of course, they made the mistake of feeding me a coffee after my evening meal, so by about 12:30 I was bouncing off the walls! Got back to Martin's and continued to talk for another 2 hours or so and eventually went to sleep around 3:45. Hahaa...

Next morning, got bored of sleeping by 10, and went to bug Martin who refused to get out of bed so i played on his computer. After messing on his new phone for ages, we finally went outside into brilliant sunshine to further wander the streets of Bristol. I love not really doing much, but having a good friend to be aimless with, and it was really good fun. :) Eventually, we met up with some of Martin's friends, and we went to a place near the Clifton Suspension bridge which they all call the slidey rock, and went for a good ramble, and played frisbee on the downs. We climbed a very steep wall as well, where there was a very big fall on the other side. Amazing views from there. I could stay there forever. Soon after though, I was back down to earth and at a train station.

Unfortunately, I had to wait a good while for a train, and so I sat happily in the train station thinking about the past few days. By the time the train came, I was full of smiles and couldn't sleep, so I just sat on the train thanking God for my wonderful friends who on a moment's notice took me into their homes and kept me company for a day. So much fun! :D I love God, and I love how he sent me all these angels. Thank you! :D

And here is the pictoral evidence of me actually getting to these places! Wooo! :D
