Since I'm not really big on sewing (I'm more of a yarn crafter), I don't have a huge stash of fabrics. But once in a while when I see a really cute fabric, I have to buy it. Last month I purchased a fat quarter of soft Hello Kitty fabric from Etsy, and I used it to make a sleeve for my iPad 2.
I got together with
pochacco906 and
smiledoggie this past weekend for some crafting, and since they're both avid quilters, I asked them to help me figure out how to sew a lined pouch. I showed
smiledoggie some sample cases online that I liked, and she helped me plan out how to cut and sew the fabric to make my ideal iPad sleeve.
Lined with plushy fleece, the sleeve holds my iPad 2
quite snuggly with or without the Smart Cover on
I also made this little sleeve for my Sony Pocket Reader with pretty
Japanese floral fabric (photo taken before I sewed the button on)
I honestly couldn't have made these sleeves if
smiledoggie didn't help me out. I can get totally lost when it comes to sewing, because I have a hard time visualizing the final result while I'm laying out the pieces to sew. I'm kind of surprised that I was able to finish these. Usually when I start a sewing project, I abandon it because I get frustrated when it doesn't come out looking like I'd hoped. But these actually turned out quite nicely! So now I'm going through my craft books and looking for more sewing projects to make. I have all these fat quarters of fabric I should put to good use!
