Lali-ho! Update time.
So yesterday night, I went to the DC United vs. Real Madrid game. Needless to say, it was probably one of the best sporting events of my life, despite being an exhibition game. It was awesome that they actually put out real grass for the game, despite the mediocre quality of the grass.
Well first off, the seats me and my friend Broc got were insanely awesome. 4 rows from the field. You don't know how close that is until you actually are there yourself. And for 45 dollars? Shit, totally worth it. During practice, Real Madrid was taking shots at the goal I was by. At the end, they started kicking them into the crowd. I glanced away to look at the incoming crowd to get a gauge of how many people would be there, and I turned back and a practice ball flew right over my head. It was probably higher than I thought, because I reached up for it, but no avail. During the game, someone from Real Madrid took a shot that went over the net and towards our area. A father made an awesome catch just a row up on that ball. He had to throw it back though. After he threw it back in, a drunk fan close to him yelled "Damn straight you throw that back in, that ball was kicked by TERRORISTS. Go DC United! WOO!" The entire section of the crowd must have burst into laughter. Futbol fans are amazing. Some little whiny father asked the drunks in front of us to cut down on the profanity. Wuss. Don't take your kids to a futbol game if you don't think they can handle the fanbase. Same guy yelled at us too because we kept standing up anytime there was action coming our way.
When Beckham took a corner kick, there were so many cameras going off when he took the shot. I was disappointed that Ronaldo wasn't playing. I almost wanted to see him more than Beckham, maily to see if he'd take a dive. Speaking of which, when you're there, it's so easy to detect a dive. DC United actually had some players who were actually tripped, and instead of being whiny pansies like World Cup players, they actually immediately got up and kept going after the ball. I was impressed. I thought DC United won the game in every category except the score (the game ended in a tie 1-1).
With almost 67,000 fans there, I have a feeling that MLS could take off in Seattle. If Seattle lost the Sonics, I wouldn't mind getting an MLS team... Probably won't happen though.
Considering that I've never played soccer in my life, I find it highly suprising that I've developed such a love for futbol.
