First internet access in what...6 days? I'm at the vet school right now, where they finally have internet. I still have no power at my place. When the storm hit Monday, my living room and bedroom were flooded with water that blew in from the balcony and window ledge. I tried to stop the flow with towels, but there was only so much I could do. I was also afraid to get too close to the windows because they were bending inward so much with each gust of wind. Add the water to the 80-degree heat, humidity, and lack of electricity, and you wind up with a stifling apartment that smells like moldy gym socks and carpet that squishes when you walk on it. Fortunately, they came by yesterday with a generator-powered carpet cleaning machine. My apartment is still dark and warm, but at least it doesn't smell as bad.
Classes have been cancelled all week, but we resume on Monday. I hate to think of what they'll do to us to make up the lost time. Hopefully they'll just take a week off Christmas break.
I've been staying with some friends who had power restored early in the week (bastards!). No, they have been wonderful and hospitable. I just wish I could get some lights and air conditioning at my own home!
If another storm comes along, I'm going to shit my pants.
