Please will one of the Fab Five update. I'm starving to hear from you.
In case anyone was interested in Mrs. Landry's herd of rabbits, I have a case update. We're fairly confident the problem can be traced back to the feed, in which the fictional toxicologist found suspect traces of antibiotic. Oh, one of the other groups advised this woman to disinfect her cages with something....I forgot what the chemical was....but the class coordinator wrote back to them saying that the woman had suffered chemical burns and was now suing them. haha. Oh, and I heard they were euthanizing the rabbits with formalin. WTF? Um...I'm pretty sure the AVMA actually has some guidelines about humane treatment of animals. Jeez, people...formalin? Why not throw a bunch of hand grenades in the barn and call it square?
Anywayz, right now it's looking like the remaining rabbits will have to be euthanized because they're probably all infected with a enteropathogenic strain of E.coli. Boo. But I'm sure the feed mill will end up paying for Mrs. Landry's losses.
BTW, Kelsey I almost called you out of desperation this morning to ask you to get in touch with your mother about this case. We were trying to find if there was a cheaper way to test for antibiotics in rabbit feed than mass spectrometry. Sadly, the internet holds little information on this topic. We found a place that would take samples to test for antibiotics in cow milk, but I think we'd have to milk a lot of rabbits to use that test....
