So, pretty much every lecture is conducted by a different professor. I really enjoy when the clinicians talk, because they have MUCH better communication skills than the guys that strictly got their Ph.Ds and sit around and do research. The other day we could hardly understand this one guy--his English was not very good. This would be fine in everyday conversation, but it makes it really hard when you're trying to understand complicated cellular processes and can't understand the words used to explain them.
Today, however, I was treated to the absolute worst lecture ever in cell biology and histology. I don't even feel like going into details. It was just wretched and made me hate the fact that two hours of my life was wasted in the classroom.
On a positive note, FREE PET FOOD! I just ordered Milo some fancy Purina canned kitten stuff that is shipped to my apartment and is entirely FREE. I also get a free bag of Science Diet every month. Yay! And I hear we'll get complimentary Frontline, too. So, yes, I will be many thousands of dollars in debt four years from now, but at least I have a few little perks to lighten the load!
Tonight I met Janel (my anatomy partner) at Coldstone where we ate ice cream and studied for tomorrow's anatomy quiz. There were two other vet students we knew who happened to be studying there.
Oh! And we started dissections today. The formaldehyde makes my eyes, nose, and throat burn so badly! Janel and I have a fat female pit bull mix who seems to have been in heat when she died. Actually, most of the animals in the lab seem to be pit bull mixes (surprise, surprise). Walking into the refrigerator room can be a little freaky at first. There's a horse torso hanging by hooks from the ceiling (with the head covered by a garbage bag). Of course, the dead, stiff animals in plastic bags lining the wall adds to the atmosphere, and there's even a human arm and leg randomly placed on a shelf. Gross! I probably just won't visit the anatomy lab on my own at night :)
Must study....
