Orientation

Yesterday was orientation for first years in vet school.  What a blast!  They told us to dress casually (“shorts and a t-shirt”)….of course most girls show up in their fashionable little capris or short shorts and Abercrombie baby-dolls wearing enough makeup to ice a cake.  Why do so many girls in my class look like they were just picked up at a bar in Cancun?  I hope most of them aren’t as shallow or idiotic as my first impression of them would lead me to believe.

However, I’ve also met many great people.  There are some normal people (not counting the friendly but controlling chick with Tourette’s who kept yelling in my ear), and most of the guys are super-nice.  I even met a second-year guy who went to UCA-turns out he’s my “Big Sib!”

They divided us into groups (cats, dogs, horses, ducks, etc.).  I was in the pig group.  Of course we did ice breakers and team-building projects.  It was all hokey but very fun!  For each final challenge that we completed successfully, we got a voucher for either cardboard, duct tape, a utility knife, or extra cardboard.  At the end of the day, we turned in our coupons to get said supplies to build a boat and paddles that would be used to send two people across the length of the swimming pool in a race against the other groups.  I guess the cardboard boats are an LSU vet school tradition.

That night there was a party at Fred’s Bar for vet students and first-year law and business school students.  Best part-open bar from 6-10!  The place was packed, so it was hard to find anyone I knew, but I met these great law school guys and played pool….as well as you can play pool when you’re slightly inebriated.  I spent the rest of my time at the McDonald’s across the street with Janelle, a really nice girl from my class, and she drove me home.

So…now I have to walk my sorry ass back to the bar and get my car.
