Penny is starting her first year at college, with hopes of becoming a lawyer. However, her long-term relationship with boyfriend Mike is threatened when Penny meets her new roommate, Lexie. Having previously lived with her elder brother, Shawn, Penny keeps a close relationship with him even though she's away from home.
Ryan Reynolds as Shawn Eddison
Older brother to Penny, Shawn has been a firefighter for five years. After the untimely death of their parents, Shawn and Penny were raised by their Uncle, Zack Shriver. Shawn and Penny are very close and keep in touch even though she's away at college, often meeting at Jupiter Valley library which sits halfway between the college and Shawn's home. Shawn spends time at Jupiter Valley flirting with college students, but his playboy lifestyle is set for a shake up when he meets new librarian, Maya Andrews.

An English backpacker who fell in love with college life and decided to study in America. Openly bi-sexual, Lexie helps Penny adjust to college life, encouraging her to take in all the experiences that lay in front of her. Extremely studious, Lexie is on a full scholarship and studying to become an environmental lawyer.

Quickly befriended Lexie Arlington as they are both studying environmental law, and harbors a crush on her, one that he is too afraid to act on due to Lexie's open bisexuality.

Teenage daughter of Zack, Lissa survived a tough childhood with her homeless mother and absent father. Neither Zack nor Lissa knew of each others existence until the suicide of Lissa's mother, in her will she named Zack as Lissa's guardian. Now a strong duo, Lissa has entered her final year of high school with best friend and neighbour, Natalie.

A highly successful investment banker, George loves a comfortable and classy lifestyle with his teenage daughter, Natalie, the result of a one-night-stand in his college years.
