#19 [video/voice] - first time for everything

[Koakuma's journal is sitting open on a table in the library in case anyone were to call for her, pointed straight to the ceiling with the video function active for no apparent reason while Koa herself passes by a few times with handfuls of books for reshelving

[Sounds that were all too familiar when he opened the journal... and then he realized who they were coming from. The voice tipped him off, and right then his instincts kicked in.

He knows what this means, that there's probably nothing he can do, but he doesn't care.]

Koa!

[...And with that he drops what he's doing and bolts for the library. He knows that every time it's always too late, that they're always long gone and there's nothing to do but wait. But damn if he's not going to try, because the one time he doesn't is the one time he could've done something about it.

So Adell arrives in the library, pile of books spilled on the floor, the window nearby shattered. Adell looked outside of it quickly. There was no trail to follow in what little snow was on the ground. He cursed to himself here, then moved only to pick up Koa's journal from the mess on the floor.]

-Patchy was already there, collapsed and sobbing.-

[Adell just moves over to her and gives her a gentle, comforting hug. There's nothing that words will do at this point, and this will speak louder support than any words that any book in this whole place could come up with.]

... I came back so that I could help her... protect her and watch over her like I should...

[This makes him hug her just a little tighter.

He knows what she's talking about. The utter helplessness of this situation was far worse for her than it could ever be for him. She had managed to get out of here. To return home. And she wanted to return to help Koa... someone who was family to her. She all but sacrificed her very freedom to try to protect someone she cared so much about... and then to have her taken away like this...

Adell fought back a lump in his throat just thinking about it.]

...She'd never blame you for this. Ever.

Of course she wouldn't... she's independent now. She... she doesn't even need me anymore...

Even before, she wouldn't have. ...If there's one thing that hasn't changed about her, it's how much she still cares about you.

...If anything she still does need you. Because you're one of the best friends she could ask for.
