you're coming to Boston this week?! How awesome is that! If you need any help or advice on what to do let me know! I love the city and I actually work downtown, and I went to school four years downtown and lived downtown there... now I live in a suburb but basically I'm a city girl.

Housing is expensive. In one word that's the truth. I lived in Jamaica Plain for a year and honestly I would recommend this neighborhood to you. There's a lot of affordable housing, and it has a great GBLT community, people there are very liberal and artsy-fartsy. There's a co-op supermarket, several parks, lots of green space, biking/walking trails, but it's also right next to public transportation. I wish I lived in JP again! I love the pong - Jamaica Pond. Great for walking around and great for the scenery. I love the lantern parade they do every October. Sorry I cannot rave enough about how much I love it there! I should also mention the bad... There is a downside I guess (why it's afforable...) - it's sandwiched in between a really affluent neighborhood (Brookline), and a really poor neighborhood (Roxbury) - so the closer you get to Roxbury the more the crime rate increases, etc. The orange line is about in the middle of the neighborhood. Most of the crime is petty though when it does happen - car theft, sometimes ( ... )

if thats how much you pay now, you'll be fine - you can start looking online to get an idea. You should be able to find a nice place with that budget for sure.

the north end is really a great place to dine - I just went to Ristorante Fiore and it was excellent. If you're looking for seafood you'll want to try the Union Oyster House or legal seafoods
