I had a free Sunday today, woo! I'm kind of annoyed that I spent the first part of it scrubbing the kitchen, including the stove that has been overly neglected... ew, but I guess in the long run that was a good use of the time. Except, of course, that as with all cleaning, there is no "long term" and it's just going to get gross again. Entropy, I hate you.
Anyway, I did get to Carlisle for an hour of practice. Arrived just in time for the second royal round of the day, so I just jumped in with no practice, whee! And I got a 54, which, while not over my target of 60, ain't bad at this stage. And if I hadn't flubbed the 30 (3 non scoring, only 9 points, ridiculous for my point-blank range), it would have been good. I have realized that I am too blase about my shooting. While it's good to be unstressed about bad days, it's not productive to have good days purely by accident. It's time to think more seriously about it, and not just fling arrows. I need to take more time and shoot every one like it counts. The result isn't there yet, but I think I'm already shooting a little better just by adjusting my attitude. I'm so not competitive, it's hard to make myself think that way. I make to-do lists of things I can already do, not goals for things I can't. But I'm saying here, now, that I will become a master bowman someday. (Yes, I keep wanting to delete that sentence, because what if that's overly ambitious? Erase the evidence!)
I also did a little work today on my marshal training and on the Camelot range. Peter kindly interrogated me after practice for an hour on equipment inspections, and discussed responsibilities of running a line. That was good, and got me much closer to being a marshal (I thought it would take more time, but I might be able to squeeze it in this summer). However, it got me home late, which means I missed my planned date with _clarice_ to work on the archery range. I still went out there, with a bag of supplies and a cordless drill (yay power tools!). I didn't get much done, as one of the a-frames had been missing a bracket and therefore had been susceptible to the winds up here, and was fairly twisted. So I spent awhile manhandling that around into shape. Whereupon I discovered that the screwdriver bit was not in the little clip on the drill. Curses. But, I got the markers set for the 20 yd target, and measured the beginning of the firing line. Still need to mark the rest of the line, measure the 30 and 40 yds, make warning signs, and weed-whack the small brush that's knee-high (scraggly so far, thankfully, so we won't have to mow yet). But then it should be operational. Maybe by the end of next weekend, if the weather is good?
In other news, I've been to two lovely weddings lately (which meant lots of incredibly good food), saw the local performance of Romeo & Juliet (with which I helped remotely by passing on some dance instruction), and got a promotion at work. Life is reasonably good :)
