So yesterday I went to Channing's work to kidnap him. He was not expecting it, he was just sitting at his desk with two of his co-workers chatting. I walk in and he gives me this confused look and says, "Well hi, what are you doing here?"
And I said, "I am here to kidnap you." This is the part where Channing looks at his co-worker, Brenda, who is actually in on the whole thing. She simply nods and waves.
"Bye, have fun."
Then Channing turned BRIGHT RED (he is so cute) and stuttered in confusion. He was told by his co-workers to shut down his workstation and go. Several seconds later, the fire alarm sounded. "It's a sign." I said.
"Yep, now I have to go." Channing said with a grin.
First it was off to the bank to get some cash for the day and drop off a check. While I took care of that, Channing changed out of his work clothes into a much more relaxing outfit that I brought for him. I wouldn't tell him where we were going, I just handed him the directions and said, "You're my navigator."
About halfway to our first destination he seemed to get used to the idea of being off for the rest of the day, and confusion gave way to happiness. When we arrived at the Denver Botanic Gardens his face lit up. Like a kid in a candy shop. Channing loves plants and gardening. And he has a wife who pays attention ;)
We spent three hours there, walking around the gardens, which were beautiful. I brought my camera so Channing could take pictures and the batteries lasted for probably the first 2/3 of the trip, so he got a lot of pictures in. He especially liked the tropical plants, which were in an indoor exhibit. I can't believe how many of the plants on this earth look like aliens.
We just walked from garden to garden, finding a bench in each of the areas to talk and enjoy the beauty around us. We didn't even sunburn, absolutely nothing spoiled the perfection of the day. I had lunch in the Monet Garden, Channing wasn't hungry, but we both had fresh squeezed lemonade which was very tasty. At about four we decided we were tired from the sun and the walking, so we left the gardens to go to our next destination.
I told him I had been struggling with finding a nice restaurant to take him to for his birthday. Something romantic, something really gourmet... and in a moment of genius I thought: my husband is not a woman. He doesn't need roses and a candle light dinner. He needs beer and video games. The answer was so clear. Dave and Busters! They have a great happy hour from 4:30-7 with Power Hour games (all the video games you can play in an hour for $10) during that time as well. So we arrived at Dave and Busters at 4:30, just in time for Happy Hour to start! It was dead, so we got front row parking (all a part of my plan, I didn't want to hit any rush hours or have any place we went be too packed). For an hour we played racing games and shot a lot of terrorists on Ghost Squad, which was really really fun. Then began the cocktails. I had a pear martini that was very good and two of the most yummy drinks I have ever tasted- the lava flow. It is a frozen drink consisting of rum, pina colada, and strawberries and it is SO GOOD. Channing had a very dangerous but tasty drink called a "Walk the Plank" and two "Purple People Eater" martinis. We were in the mood for tasty fru-fru drinks. And they were half price! Bonus!
When our first round of video games we sat down for dinner. We did the "dinner and $10 game card for $15" deal. Milking that place for all of it's specials haha. I had peppercorn chicken, which was very good (although I ate way to much and almost made myself sick, oops) and Channing had a giant monster of a cheeseburger, which he said was good as well. Conversation was pretty fun, we were both a little tipsy at that point, but it was that great drunk that is not too stupid or obnoxious, just a little giggly.
Round two of video games was mostly us getting tickets. We didn't win that much, but it didn't matter. Channing's card malfunctioned at the ski-ball machine so I gave him mine. He proceeded to win big on this crazy game where you have to stop a blinking light on a bunch of fruit, and if you match two or three fruits you win tickets, etc. Anyhow, it was a blast. After mulling around in the prize area for a bit, we didn't see anything we wanted, so we saved the tickets for another day.
Channing had suggested that we see a movie if we had not sobered up after the video games, but he was good to drive by then. We looked at the movies anyway, and didn't find anything we wanted to see, so we called it a day and went home.
At home, we talked and cuddled and romantic couply stuff like that until we remembered that we still had to go get his car from work. So we did that and got home to find Jimmy watching some Avatar: The Last Airbender. I was so tired I knew I wouldn't last one episode, so I got ready for bed and crashed on the couch next to Chann while they finished the second disk.
All in all, I couldn't have asked for a more awesome day. Everything went absolutely perfect. I was glad that we got to celebrate his birthday, and I got to really let him know how special I think he is by taking him out for an un-expected holiday. What a great husband I have. I'm so glad he was born!
