Erin, your photos have literally taken my breath away. They are hands down some of the most gorgeous I have *ever* seen...Laurel did an amazing job, and I think there is no question that you made the right decision going with her. I can't imagine that the other guy (Bradley?) could have done any better. I am just absolutely captivated by them all (I have no patience, so I already peeked at your Knot bio to see the rest). You and all your loved ones are far too photogenic for your own good. ;)
And, I think seeing these pictures has made me change my mind (again) about wearing gardenias in my hair. I let my mom talk me out of it earlier on, but damn it, they just look SO gorgeous. I'm calling my florist first thing on Monday!
If my wedding is even half as lovely as yours, I will be delighted. I only wish I could have been a fly on the wall!
Yay! That's HUGE coming from you! I am sure Bradley would have done a great job, but he sure wouldn't have been as fun, I would never have worked up the courage to do the boudoir shots, and I would have spent 2x the money. All in all, I am very happy with what Laurel did for us. And thank you for your sweet compliments. I just got eviscerated on The Knot for being pretentious, so it's nice to hear some reassuring words. Aw well, I put myself out there for the critique I suppose.
I think the gardenias were such a nice touch. One word of advice. Make sure to guard them and whoever anchors them to your do should avoid jamming their fingers into the center of the flowers. I don't think Jamie realized they bruised so easily. They also weigh quite more than I anticipated, so make sure your hair is firmly in place. Other than that, they were lovely and smelled so good!
And Charlotte, something tells me your wedding will be coveted by all. Can't wait to see your day come.
Nope, on the NY board. I did a search to make sure I hadn't missed anyone's page because I've been getting a lot of questions as to where people can get things. So I happened across this:
Now, I might be just a titch sensitive because I guess I can sorta see where some of the ladies are coming from. Also, there were a handful that were really flattering in there as well. But it still bothers me. If only they knew I put SO MUCH effort into making sure the mothers got to wear whatever they wanted and what made them comfortable. Or that the bobbi brown pic wasn't to broadcast that I had a bobbi brown rep do our makeup but rather I read it as saying "it takes all this to make us beautiful". Aw well, water off the back, right? I did indulge by replying, I just hope they don’t take that the wrong way too.
How nasty! And completely unfair, since practically every bride I have seen has had similar detail shots. Besides, your photographer was the one taking the pictures, not you!
There are always going to be those who like to shoot other people down just for the sake of entertainment, but that certainly doesn't say much about their character. I'd focus more on the fact that people think your pics are so extraordinary that they are sharing them on their own local boards. Don't let it get you down!
Oh, and P.S....I saw the mention about your NYC bachelorette party and realized we never did get a recap of that. I'd love to hear how it went!!!
Thanks Charlotte, you are right. It only amounts to a handful of hurtful comments and really, they don't even know who I am. So I suppose I should just let it go. But they can be so nasty on The Knot which is why I tend to stay away most of the time.
You know, the only person with pictures of our bachette is my mother. I have to sneak a copy of them so I can post because it was by far one of the most fun trips of my life. I will try to get them this weekend. :)
Um, speaking as a yuppie lawyer myself who occasionally drinks starbucks, I think they should just chill out. Not everything I see in other people's bios is my taste either, but it seems kind of nasty to critique. Anyway...you handled it well.
Yah, it was kinda petty. Of course, I was overly-sensitive about it. But come on!! When talking about Starbucks is considered 'name dropping'?? I can see the vera or reem comment, but Starbucks?? Eh.
I'm very sorry those girls felt the need to be so rude about your lovely day. Unfortunately, I've found other women to be very petty at times. It's a terribly immature trait and you shrugged it off very well.
Isn't it sad Laura? I don't think I would ever have the heart to make such judgements and put them out there for general consumption. We all judge to a certain degree, but many times we know so little about any given person or situation. Oh well.
I just have to put my two cents in...I read through that thread on the Knot about you, and I can't believe people would sit there and talk about you like that!! How rude to have an entire thread to 'gossip' about you and the way you chose to plan your wedding! Good Lord! I'm glad that you stood up for yourself, and in a very gracious way, too, I might add. And you are right, they can be nasty over there, which is why I chose LJ instead! ;)
Silly, wasn't it? Of course I was a bit sensitive about it, but I just felt it necessary to point out that we all know VERY little about one another. So to snap-judge based on a handful of pictures is really bad form. Ugh. Women some times?! I don't get it.
