Today one of my soldiers had an "accidental discharge (no, not that sort)" with his M14. It was about ten inches away from my right ear, which is already seriously damaged from SWAT and later, the Sangin Valley guns. Thankfully it was a blank cartridge and there is no hole in my head. Tomorrow morning he is being disciplined without anger, but considerable thought has gone into the technique. I think it will work well.
