La raffredore

Many of the girls in my apartment have been sick, and I'd managed to avoid it (thanks NetiPot!) until this week. I had being sick, it makes me feel so unproductive, but I haven't had the energy to do much of anything. Currently, I have the delightful feeling of yellow phlegm irritating my nose and throat. Which does not bode well for my voice lesson tomorrow. To fight it, I spent the whole day in the apartment, which meant I missed part of one of art history trip to the Uffizi. Honestly, I would not have been able to handle 3 hours of Helen's yammering, so I'm gonna go with my parents when they come to Florence next weekend because gosh darnit, I'm gonna see those Botticellis! (Birth of Venus? I wouldn't miss it for the world.) Especially since I have to go to Siena all day for an art history field trip. There's only so much a girl can take. MUST FEEL BETTER SOON.

I need to go shopping. There is a hole in the crotch of my only pair of European-style jeans. You can't really tell when I wear them, but it makes me feel rather skanky all the same. Besides it is not very hard to look European, when everyone here wears basically the same thing. Tight skinny jeans tucked into suede calf-length or taller boots (usually purple or some other striking color), Hip length slouchy sweater or fitted blazer. And big sunglasses. And unlike most cities and towns in Europe, the stores don't close in the afternoon for lunch, so I will be able to get my shopping on this Saturday.

In the meantime, TV downloads are keeping me sane. I don't know how I would function without my American television. Mad Men, Gossip Girl and the Office all at my disposal. Yes, I finally jumped on "The Office" bandwagon 5 seasons in, and yes it is worth all the hype. (PS - does anyone else see the uncanny resemblance of recently-married PTP Joe Barbee and "The Office"'s Ed Helms aka Andy?). And I never really watched high school soaps when I was in high school, or college for that matter, but I am addicted to this one. I think it's the clothes...definitely an evolution of SATC's costuming fabulousness. In fact, I would have hated those girls in high school, but damn if their bitching doesn't make for some high caliber TV drama?

tv, italy, clothes, sick
