Sexism is becoming a theme here lately.

I really, really need to block http://www.winter-is-coming.net somehow so I can make sure I stop going there. I keep telling myself not to but every now and then I think, "I'll just have a peek, I want some news and maybe the comments won't be sexist/homophobic asshats today. HA.

The post with the poll for best supporting actress bothered me. In the corresponding poll for best supporting actor, they were falling over themselves to say how difficult it was to choose because they were all so amazing but the female parts? Well they were all so trivial/unimportant/silly. So, male parts with relatively little screen time = awesome, amazing, moving. Female roles with relatively little screen time = pointless, trivial, silly, unimportant. Got it.

But maybe that's not so bad, maybe I was over-reacting, I thought but then I got to the hot, spicy slut-shaming. You see, the woman who played Shae, Sibel Kekili, has done porn in the past, apparently and according to the great minds at WiC, if you've ever done porn, you can never be considered a "proper" actress. I mean, never mind all the "legitimate," movies she's done, never mind the awards she's been nominated for and won, no, if you've had sex on film that's it, that's all you'll ever be; a porn actress. Apparently porn on a cv is like crap in ice-cream? That analogy, I just don't even know how that's meant to make sense. I'll bet dollars to donuts that this guy's whacked-off to porn before but he's got no qualms with shaming and ridiculing the women who've appeared in it for his benefit.

This fandom. Seriously. It's fucking gross.

lol sexism, asoiaf
