It's... hard doing this review after watching "Double Blind". It was tough before, because "Revenge" sort of ripped my heart out on a whole new level, but now... now there's suddenly so much Tony!pain in my head and overshadowing the rest, and it's really hard to get my thoughts together while all I want to do is curl up in a corner and whimper

You are so right about reverting being the natural response. I too didn't really understand why people didn't understant that as being pretty necessary character-wise.
Also, though I didn't really quite get it on the first viewing, upon watching the second time I understood the scene where Abby asks "How did it go?". It was slow coming but I did get it eventually. For some reason, and I don't know why really, that moment flashed me back to many seasons ago where Tony and Ziva are confusedly talking about Johnny Depp and pirates and Tony asks, "How did we get here?" and Ziva answers, "I drove.". My brain isn't functioning at a full enough capacity to understand/ explain why it sees a connection in that, but it does.
Lastly (for now), the scene in the gym killed me too. When I rewatched the episode I couldn't watch it again. It affected me much in the same way that I haven't been able to watch "Recoil" in totality since I saw it the first time. Totally sucker-punched me in the gut leaving me breathless.
