One of those questions that were asked over on Tumblr, but might be of interest to some of the folks reading along here...

pyropitseleh asked you: Good evening Sammy, I have a technical question. I was over at AO3 checking out fic, and I was wondering if getting an invite to become a full member is necessary? I don't do anything other than reading, so I didn't think I needed to become a member. Am I missing out on anything? Have a great day.

You’re not missing out on anything if you’re just a reader - at least not as far as I can say. You can leave “Kudos” (sort of a “like” feature) as a guest, too, and you can even comment on stories - not anonymously, but your (nick)name and a valid email address is more than enough to leave a review. (The email addy won’t be published, it’s just for verification purposes - and if someone replies to your comment, you’ll get an email notification to the addy you listed.)

The only thing I can think of right now is that when you’re a member, you can “bookmark” stories and put them in collections - sort of an equivalent to the “favorites” feature on ffn. Oh, and you can adjust your settings then so you won’t be asked every time you’re touching mature/adult content if you *really* want to see the naughty stuff. ;P

But perhaps my more AO3-savvy folks have something to add I forgot?
