Okay, so I came back from the computer store with a new harddrive today because the old one was indeed fried. Good news, they actually salvaged all my data, put it on the new drive and formatted/partitioned/named it the same way I had it set up. (I bet they wonder what "Zi" meant as a harddrive name... *gg*)
Bad news, they gave me a harddrive by another manufacturer (good) with 5400 rpm instead of the previous 7200 rpm (bad) and 32 MB of cache instead of the previous 64 MB (also bad). I could actually live with that, even though I would have liked the faster model for vidding and working with Camera RAW, but hey. The thing I can't live with is that the new drive is 6 Euros cheaper than the old one. And that annoys me.
Guess who's back at the store tomorrow... *hrmpf*
Edited to give this entry at least some amusement value: I have a partition now that is solely for stuff that gets downloaded and sorted later. I named that partition "Probie". *headdesk*
