And even so, this pretty much blew through my expectations. Excuse me while I go on a little quote binge here:
Then he just steps inside her apartment and reaches for her, and she moves to meet him, out of reflex, because lately it just feels like the right thing to do. And so each time he touches her, it feels a bit like trying to ride a wild horse, with no idea what to expect and how soon she would end up on the ground.
I particularly loved the first section, the whole thing really. I loved the sense of rightness and yet strangeness because of the newness of their relationship.
I loved all the instances and all the little different ways you describe of Tony touching Ziva. It makes you feel wrapped up in the story with them.
She tries out which words hold the most meaning for her, and it is ridiculously easy to meet his eyes when she says that she takes this obligation freely.I loved that there were 2 or 3 emotional twists in the second section, from tension to fear to silliness

Hearing stuff like that makes me blush, really... and very, very happy. ;)

I found that in other fandoms, I have always been a sucker for first time-stories. With these two, though, I have developed a real fondness for the "early stages" ones, because IMO these will prove to be the really tough part for them - working it out, how to treat each other, how to make this work, how to go against both their natures of screwing up and being asses. For some reason, that seems to be the real spice for me. ;)
That's about the point when I had to start making a pretty manly effort not to tear up.
Truthfully? Me, too.
I really, really hope they won't use him missing the ceremony as another of those turning points to get them further apart once more, just when they seemed to get along. *sighs*
"It would have been... nice to have you there," she says, breathing out, and it feels weird to admit that she wants him around instead of merely expecting him to be.
I swear, you have an uncanny knack of writing single sentences that sums up the Tony/Ziva relationship that's taken five years to build. They've always taken having the other around for granted (despite Jeanne and the aftermath of Jenny's death). Only this past season has that (seemingly) significantly changed. Well, I think.
Having Ziva know where and with an idea of *what* Tony is doing while she's at her ceremony makes the lingering glances she casts on those two empty chairs more meaning. Instead of simply sadness, there's also worry and fear for Tony there. And ah! If only they had included a little scene like this in the finale! ;)
That is so.... can I use the word perfect again? Cause it is. Perfect. This is Ziva.
You can use it how often you like, there's no limit to perfection here. *giggles*
This was also one of the lines that really felt like Ziva to me, so I'm glad it worked for others the same way.
My eyes TOTALLY widened and I just gasped. AHHHH!!!
I really had this very vivid image of Tony's face in my head, with his eyes slightly bulging when he realizes what has almost slipped out of his mouth and that it was some honest-to-God emotion and not deflection, hee.
I can't thank you enough for the care you handle these characters with
Hearing stuff like this still leaves me in awe. Some words are just really powerful, and praise like this falls into that category. So, thank you, for telling me it works. :)

That is an awesome thing to hear, really. It makes me insanely happy. Even though I have no idea how I manage that myself. ;)

I'm glad you felt that, too. I still have the feeling that there is more to that mission than simple observation.

This was absolutely lovely. I'm going to have to read it again when I'm not about to crash so I can appreciate just how much.
