Proverbs 4:23 ESV
Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flows the springs of life.
This is p wen's favourite verse and i'm first hand experiencing how important it actually is in many aspects -- in relationships, in work, in habits and hobbies, even in thoughts that build up in our minds.
the past few months have seen me trying to find a new desire knowing God's word.
And in retrospect, several things have happened that make me realise how God desires for me to return to a place of actively seeking and loving His word
1) Going for BSF intro
before graduating i made a pact with myself that when i have more time i would dedicate it to studying God's word in depth. and i've finally taken the steps to actually search out and email the class administrator. he invited me down for an intro session at foochow which i ended up going (and God was good enough to even provide me very last minute company, thanks J =) ). the session covered what bsf is about, how it runs, and now, it boils down to awaiting a call for a confirmation slot
2) Meeting a cult.
at bishan mrt, a young girl approached me and asked me to fill up a survey on christianity. so i thought why not, thinking it was some school project that she had probably been spending hours trying to get responses to. but instead it turned out that she was more keen on selling me the idea of god the mother and how only the mother gives life when jesus returns. very bad theology. her sheer insistence on trying to keep in contact with me made me realize how important it is that we need to stand firm on God's word and not just know it as a text or past story, but as a living word that speaks to us.
3) Meeting up with C
made me realize amazing God is, and how he makes all things beautiful in His time. im happy for her, happy that she is settling well in those areas =) and yearning, knowing the bible more and more. she shared a few studies with me, the prodigal son and how it paralleled how Christ was the perfect elder brother which the real brother wasn't. and that really, really ministered to me.
4) Sunday sermon on the 'sword of the spirit'.
the best sermon I've heard in months literally. p steven was sharing about knowing the bible as a whole, enables the holy spirit to give us a timely rhema word for a specific situation.
I think that has been enough signs for now, desire has to come from within me. To actively push out the distractions that grab at me, and to ask for the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 10: 17
Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.
