i totally understand about using music to block out thoughts/nightmares/etc... whenever i'm upset about something, i need music to fall alseep. maybe it has subconciously to do with being sung to as babies when we went to sleep. maybe it just makes it so there's one thing that you can concentrate on and hopefully not think in a way that prevents sleep. probably a whole mixture of things. but yes, it's definetly not unique. *hugs* p.s. i need to talk to you...about summer and stuff, when's a good time to call?
Actually, that state isn't so unique. For one thing, when my father was ill was when i started listening to either NPR or books-ontape to go to sleep, and it seems that your analysis of the reasoning behind it is perfectly valid. Also, the sensitivity to the song content is something i similarly have. I still listen to those songs that make me sad, but mostly for the exact purpose of being reminded of my father, although, i suppose you don't really need that, so listening to those songs will just remind you of his injuries and not your father himself. AH well, i shouldn't babble liek this, but i do anyways.
By the first unique I meant unique among my emotional states, not in the world. Which is why I said I was sure the emotional state was not unique to me. I did realize later that that might be confusing but didn't bother changing it. Maybe I'll do that now.
