Tori's toe-tapping and wing-flipping has slightly subsided. She seems a little bit more relaxed. She does, however, now have some scabbing and sores that formed on her legs from plucking so hard and this is bothering her. I can tell it's itchy. I didn't notice these until the other day when I wondered why she keeps going at her legs so much, then I took a much closer look and saw.
I am applying the Silvedene creme to her legs as well as some anti-itch creme to the more raw-looking spots. The problem with this is that she still "beaks" at the affected areas and gets the creme on her beak.
She is getting 0.40cc's of Goldenseal/Echinacea extract twice daily and 3-5 drops of flower essence for obsessive birds every couple of hours. I have also ordered a flower essence for chronic infection.
Compared to the intensity of her toe-tapping and wing-flipping over the past week or so, she is doing much better. I just have to keep her from picking at those scabs.
In light of all this, I have spoken to a dear and close friend of mine who is amazing with parrots and lives not too far from me (she gave me Simon) and she has agreed to take Tori on a "vacation" or "rehabilitation session" for a few months. Yes, months. As absolutely devastated as I will be without my Little Red Doll around, I know that being with my friend and the flock of Ekkies she has will do Tori very well. She needs to get out of my energy - she and I have a very complicated bond and she feels everything I feel and absorbs it into herself. She needs to be pulled from the environment to recouperate for a while and realize she is a birdie that has the capability to grow beautiful feathers. I do not trust anyone other than this friend to even touch Tori. I am surprised that I am even allowing myself to consider this but I feel strongly that it is a good idea - and of course, my friend made it seem as easy as if I were asking her for a cup of coffee. She also refused the payment I offered her, which, again, just proves her golden heart. (There's no way I'm going to allow her to do this for free, regardless.)
Tori will be fine. She will miss me but she will also enjoy getting to know new birdies and friends. I will visit her on the weekends and help my friend with cage duty and feedings and all kinds of stuff.
My sweet, little fuzz butt.
Humanity has not invented words for how much I love her.
