My dad and five other guys are playing poker right now. It's 9:30 and the sun is still setting. Last night, it didn't completely set until about 10:45. It's different here in British Columbia. We are definitely nestled in the heart of God's Land. We're staying at Escott Bay Resort on an indian reservation. It's about 200 miles from anything you could a town, with 'town' being defined by a school, gas station, and/or super-market.
This is my first experience in a log cabin. The cabin, itself, is pretty keen. And everything surrounding the cabin really sets it off. Anahim Lake is absolutely gorgeous. It's the biggest lake I've ever seen. Surrounding Anahim is deep forest and behind that, one can see huge mountains layered in snow. It's late June. This is definitely a change of pace from the 90 degree weather I left behind.
We came here with one of my dad's old friends, Ron. This is an annual thing for him (Ron) and his buddies: a group of older guys I wouldn't be surprised to see in Slick & Red's at four in the afternoon. There are the old fishermen and then there's some middle-aged guys (most of whom are police officers). I'm not the youngest, though. One of the cops (Randy) brought his son (John) and he's only twenty. In all, there are eleven of us.
This is our second day here. Well, it's our first full day. We arrived last night around 7:30. Last night was spent drinking Canadian Club (100 proof, by the way), and playing poker. The plan for today was to go fishing, but the wind was against us, so our plans got foiled. You can't fly-fish with bad wind or you'll end up hooking yer freakin' ear.
Yesterday was Gen's 21st birthday. (It was also Aundre's birthday.) I talked to her for a few minutes last night. She was a little drunk. I hate I missed her birthday. I miss her badly. I'm counting down the days till I can go home and be with her again. I might have really stumbled onto something here. That's kind of scary. Scary, but exhilerating at the same time. I love her and she loves me. That's fucking lovely.
Today was Father's Day. I wish we could've gone fishing or just done...something. None-the-less, I think this is the best Father's Day gift I could've given my dad. This trip, that is. It's the least I can do. Seeing as he's paying for all of this. He really is a super Dad.
Well, I guess I'm about done here. Time to down a little more tequilla, and toast to a trout-filled tomorrow.
