last night was weird. I couldn't sleep so I got into an e-mail conversation with Brennan's aunt who works overnight. Believe it or not - that family thinks that "Us lefties" (me, My son Scott and or his other grandma) "made" Brennan left handed. They seem to have decided that he really was a righty and we made him become a lefty because we are. When you actually figure it out I have him an average of 4 days per month and shortly after Brennan turned 2 his dad moved out of state for the next 6 years. How in the world could we have ever "Made" him into a lefty. He lived with his mother until he was almost 11 and it was her and or possibly her mother who taught him how to print his name and his numbers before he could go to kindergarten. I think what it boils down to is that Uncle Scotty is having a frustrating time trying to help Brennan with playing sports. Any kid wants to be great right off the bat. But without practicing. When things don't go just right they get flustered and say "I suck at this". So the family has come to the conclusion that he is using the wrong hand and that is the reason for all of it. Can you imagine. Even when my son was in the area when Brennan was so young he only had 4 days a month also. But I guess when Carla asked him about it he said he did put things in Brennan's left hand. To them that means "we did it". Me, I just put stuff on the table or floor with any kid and let them decide how to pick it up. Who cares really what hand you use. They also think we are "too Proud" of the fact that we are lefties, maybe even think we are superior to righties. Can you imagine. I went through a lot being a lefty in a right handed world back in my generation. Back in the 20's, 30's and 40's schools tried to force you to be right handed. You got hit with rulers and even had your left hand tied to you so that you would write right handed. I was the product of the 40's but luckily had a great teacher who refused to do that. She had been forced as a child to be a righty and as an adult reverted back to being a lefty and vowed never to do what was done to her to any child. I lost a job after I had been hired because on my first day, while filling out the paperwork for deductions etc. they saw I was a lefty and their office was set up for right handed people only. My saying I could just move stuff on my desk or that I had lived in a right handed world for over 18 years didn't help. Because they had already hired me they found me a job elsewhere in the company. Better believe that I found another job pronto and in an office where they didn't discriminate. Back then you didn't have the laws we have now.

So far this conversation back and forth with Aunt Carla has been fairly friendly and I do have a sense of humor but still- how weird is it. They seem to over analyze everything. Carla is getting a Masters I think in social work and she seems to take everything so seriously.
