Character's Name: Rainbow Dash
Character's Age: Unknown, but as she and her friends live on their own without any parents, I would estimate them to be the equivalent of young adults.
What form will your character's NV take? A small floating cloud that follows her around. It has a video screen and a few buttons that are large enough for hooves to press.
Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: Since she's a Pegasus, Rainbow Dash has the ability to fly. She also has a couple of cloud-related abilities: She can stand on clouds as if they were solid, can jump on them to make rain come out, kick them to produce lightning, and she can blow them away to clear the sky by flapping her wings.

Character History:
Somewhere, in a world far from ours, there is a country called Equestria. This land is inhabited by adorable and very marketable multi-colored ponies as well as a few other mythical and mysterious creatures. Within Equestria there is a small town called Ponyville, and it's there that a scrappy Pegasus named Rainbow Dash makes her home. Well, to be more specific, her home is situated in the clouds above Ponyville. It makes perfect sense considering she's very rarely not seen in the air.
For her entire life, Rainbow Dash has trained herself not only for speed, but perfecting amazing aerial stunts. When she was younger, she even attended Junior Speedster Camp, and will enthusiastically recite the school song if given the chance. Her dream is to one day be accepted into a famous group called the Wonderbolts, Pegasus ponies who perform the pony equivalent of an air show. Unfortunately, it seems every time she gets a chance to show them her stuff, something prevents her from going to the performance. This doesn't dampen her enthusiasm in the least, however, and she spends plenty of time darting around the skies of Ponyville practicing for the day she finally gets her chance to try out for their team.
Like with most Pegasus, her job around town deals with weather related duties. She's regularly assigned to clear the skies, but it's not unusual for her to be found slacking off on her chores in favor of more training or even just for a nap. When the annual Winter Wrap-Up comes around, she's the captain of the team of Pegasus responsible for not only clearing the sky, but leading the Southern birds home so they can began raising their Spring babies.
When she and her friends went to face the evil pony attempting to take over Equestria, Dash was assigned the harmony element of 'Loyalty'. This was because, when the villain attempted to trick Rainbow Dash into abandoning her friends in favor of joining an elite flying group, she chose to stick by her friends instead.
Point in Canon: Right after the events of 'Dragonshy'.
Character Personality:
The thing that sticks out most about this little pony is that she's not of the frilly frou-frou variety. Rainbow Dash is a rough and tough tomboy, who's not afraid to get her hooves dirty when there's trouble. In fact, her confidence in her abilities is perhaps a bit too large; it takes friends holding her back to keep her from taking on a few foes that would be too much for her to handle. Along with her bravery comes a fairly sizable ego. She's quite happy to brag about her speed at great length to anyone who will listen. Modesty is not a word in Rainbow Dash's dictionary, and she often misses out on social cues others would pick up on when it comes to curbing her boasting. Even when she does find herself scared, she certainly won't admit to it. Her self-confidence can lead her to become easily frustrated with those that aren't quite as brave, and she has a very short temper when it comes to things that irritate her.
Along with being a tomboy, Rainbow Dash is also a trickster. In between training and shirking her sky clearing duties, she enjoys pulling pranks on the poor, unsuspecting citizens of Ponyville. Even those she considers her close friends aren't safe from the occasional unexpected raincloud bursting above their heads for a surprise shower or mysterious object falling on them from nowhere. Her tricks are always fairly harmless, however, and she does know when it's a good idea not to pull them.
Beneath Dash's rough exterior is a good and caring heart. In spite of her tendency towards bluntness, when the chips are down she's incredibly dependable and stands up for her friends when they need it. It just takes a bit of digging to get to that warm gooey center under all the ego.
Character Plans: Equestria doesn't seem to have any humanoid inhabitants, so first on the agenda is having Rainbow Dash try and figure out what's going on with all these weird looking bi-peds. I can see her having a lot of fun messing with the night creatures, as she sure as heck isn't smart enough to be wary of them. By pure dumb luck she'll manage to hold her own.

Writing Samples
First Person Sample
[At first, it's very difficult to tell what's going on in this video. It's obvious someone is going extremely fast, as buildings and trees go by in a blur. There's the sound of flapping wings, and of wind rushing past the microphone. Suddenly, female a voice can be heard.]
Haha! Oh man! This'll be perfect!
[Seconds later, the screen is filled with green and there's the sound of rustling. Oh, and giggling. Plenty of that. The camera finally seems to focus, revealing that the person behind it is currently in a tree. The view switches downward to the sidewalk below, with people occasionally passing underneath it. The girl behind the camera whispers excitedly.]
OK! One... two... three!
[Clunk! SPLASH! A water balloon is thrown from the tree, landing right on an unlucky bald man's head. He looks up, confused and clearly very agitated. After several minutes of glaring upwards it seems he can't see the culprit, however, as he simply lets out a few choice expletives before stomping off soaking wet. The laughter is much louder now, causing the video to shake. The view swings around, revealing the laughing face of a little blue pony with rainbow hair.]
Did you see the look on his face? That was so classic! Haha! Even in this weird place, I've still got the touch! I'm gonna try it from even higher next time!

Third Person Sample
It was instantly clear that Rainbow Dash wasn't in Ponyville anymore. The darkness in this place wasn't like the night back home. It was somehow darker. She couldn't figure out how that was possible, but it was the best way she could think of to describe it. Even as she felt the twinges of apprehension rising inside, she mentally shoved them away. So she was a little lost. So what? She could handle it.
The scenery was very foreign. She knew that the tall structures around her had to be buildings, but they seemed so stoic and uninviting. Not like the homes back where she came from that were usually much smaller and cheerily decorated to display the personality of their inhabitant. No, all of these seemed to be the same.
"Booooring," she said to herself. There was a hint of nervousness in her voice, and she internally was grateful nobody she knew was around to hear it.
The first creature caught her totally by surprise. A Rat-tailed pigeon scurried out from behind a trash can, and actually made her jump a good foot in the air.
Not because she'd been scared, of course! No way! It was just the sight of something so weird that caught her off guard.
When the monstrosity launched itself at her, she didn't hesitate. With one swift movement she turned around and kicked it hard. It made a pained sound before wobbling away as fast as it could.
Dash gained a cocky grin and stood a little taller. Oh well. If she was stuck in this strange place, she might as well have a little fun. Besides, this whole thing would make a great story for her to impress the Wonderbolts with. How many ponies could say they'd taken on a whole city full of monsters?
Perking her head up, she listened carefully for the sound of other critters nearby. The sound of movement around the corner caused her to snicker to herself before taking a crouching stance and moving in quietly to surprise whatever she found.
