As I stood underneath the metal showerhead
the hot rivulets of water coursing down my body
I closed my eyes
and let the steam take me away.
Off to another place
where I was alone
yet safe and cared for.
I thought about the water;
how it wrapped its lines of warm liquid
around my shoulders and over my hips
always moving downward.
Always
downward.
And as my body heat rose
and I tilted my chin back
gasping for cool air
to contrast the intense heat,
I looked down
and saw "iH" written
on the tender spot between my stomach
and my right hip
where my skin is soft and warm.
The blue ink from last night
was harder to get out
than I thought it would be.
