I was suddenly awakened at 2am and since then, I couldn't go back to sleep. I lay in bed tossing and turning the whole time, thinking of what had happened last year. Exactly a year ago at this time, I couldn't sleep too, in anticipation of Elliot's birth. As you can tell from
the opening line in my entry the night before, I had a very strong feeling that it was the day. True enough, at about 6am, I felt my first contraction.
Almost seven hours later...(pardon my eye bags)
And viola! Now there's four.
Probably one of the few pictures where Elliot looks smaller than Emma!
I lay in bed thinking of how our little family had expanded and grown, and how we had adjusted to one another. I can't believe a year has passed, and I'm so thankful for our Faithful Father who has really watched over us, guided us through each step of the way. Having to cope with practically two babies (the kids being less than two years apart) really hasn't been easy. There have been so many times when we wondered if we should've waited a little longer before having Elliot, so that we could concentrate on bringing Emma up, so that we don't have to deal with both needing as much attention, so that we don't have to deal with two sick kids at the same time, so that we didn't have to get a helper. We still don't know the answer, but we know that we are learning more about peace, patience and self-control, joy, faithfulness and gentleness, love and forgiveness. When Emma brings Elliot a toy, sings him a song which he dances to, when they are both chuckling or asleep in each of our arms, we are reminded that God is watching over us. They have been bad days, but there are definitely good days. And no matter how the bad ones are, the good ones always remain in our hearts.
We celebrated Elliot's first birthday yesterday afternoon. More updates on his party later, but I must say he really enjoyed himself! I always think kids never really get to enjoy their own parties till they're about three, but this boy really did. Even though his usual afternoon nap was disrupted, he wasn't cranky at all and was all smiles from beginning till the end (apart from the two times he wanted his milk and dinner).
At the start of the party...
Almost five hours later...
Look how he's grown!
There's nothing in this world I would trade for my family. I love each of them to bits!!!
