Emma is 6 months old today! How time flies.
When I was younger, I wanted to have many kids by the age of 30. But as the years went by, having children was no longer a priority. I guess when you start working, and you just get married, you just feel like there are thousand and one things you want to do and accomplish before the little ones come along and 'disrupt' your life. For us, we wanted to travel and felt that having kids would be disruptive for our yearly getaways. We'd also seen how some of our friends seem to disappear after their kids come along, and were afraid that our lives would revolve so much around the kids that we wouldn't have time for ourselves, or our other pursuits. Selfish reasons, but real concerns. Then...
It hasn't been all that easy so far, and we are still learning a lot about parenthood, but I must say that the last six months have been amazing. Our little one brings so much joy that even the most breathtaking views from our holidays pale in comparison...It is true that our lives revolve around Emma, but we have tried to fit her into our lives rather than the other way round. And surprisingly, it isn't as disruptive as we thought it'd be (except when she decides to do a big one when we're late for an appointment)! Of course, we do have to make some sacrifices here and there (like not being able to watch a movie on impulse), but love often involves sacrifices, doesn't it?
Most of all, it really touches me when I see Clarence taking care of Emma. Before she came along, he had never carried a baby, and has never been that interested in babies. But he is such a pro with her! I know that he would rather play his x-box games, have a round of golf with his friends or watch TV, but if I have something to attend to, he never refuses to look after her. All by himself, mind you!
And just for memories' sake, here's a picture of us exactly six months ago...
