Despite the sweltering temperatures for the past few weeks, I feel like this weekend was the true beginning of summer for me. We celebrated the 4th at Jay and br0ken_b0y's place enjoying brisket and ribs and trying not to roast in the sun. I fully admit, I wasn't at my best for the first few hours, I was tired and cranky and sitting out in unrelenting sun was not making me feel better. We did get to enjoy the Doo Dah parade though, and after spending some time inside waiting for the sun to set a bit, all was well. Doo Dah was pretty spot on this year with a few Jerry Sandusky floats, an Occupy Wall St. tent, and an AEP float with a blown transformer (which was especially timely considering there were still people without power after last Friday's derecho blew through.

Friday J and I had the day off and we started the day with some party prep for his tiki themed bday party later in the evening. After lunch I surprised him with a trip to Magic Mountain and once again met up with Jay, Bb and E to play mini golf and race go-karts. I was a bit worried it would come across as kind of cheesy or hokey, but J had a really good time and was pretty excited about the turn of events for the afternoon. Sometimes he really is a big kid that way. The group promised to go back again sometime in the fall when its a bit cooler so we can continue our golf game, which I think should be pretty fun.

The tiki party later came together really well and we had a great time with food and booze and the like. As per usual for most of our parties, the last person finally went home around 5 a.m. with two other people asleep on the couch and spare bedroom. All in all a good time was had by all, and summer tiki parties will most likely become the norm, even Kid Icarus seemed to enjoy the grass skirted kitchen island as his latest hiding space.
