Hodge podge

I feel like there is both lots and little going on since my last post. While I followed up on the cat bite by going to urgent care, and my GP several times, I had a really terrible reaction to the antibiotics they put me on and ended up sick for over a week. When I had my wisdom teeth pulled a few years back they gave me clindamycin which caused C. Diff; this time they started me with amoxicilan which I seemed to have a similar reaction to so they switched to Flagyl (which is used to treat C. Diff) and something else. Well those actually seemed to be worse then the amoxicilan and my digestive system paid dearly. Even though I haven't taken anything for over a week now, I finally have an appetite and seem to be able to hold food down for longer than five minutes. Unfortunately, I lost five pounds (if anyone needs to crash diet and lost five pounds in five days let me know)and had to go back on steroids in order to just be able to leave the house, but I'm making progress. I've also vowed to never take antibiotics again. Ever. I would rather die of some random infection than go through another round of this.

But...in a light at the end of the tunnel tale, I was able to pick up my packages of bees this weekend and installed the hives in back of the yard. The weather over the weekend left a lot to be desired, but I think that overall things went well. Unfortunately, this week has continued to be a bit chilly so I haven't opened the hives to check on them, but I have seen signs of activity when I arrive home from work so I'm taking that as good news. I really hope this project is successful. I don't really expect to get much honey from the hives this year, if ever, but a few combs here and there for our own consumption would be nice.
