A few months ago my doctors determined that none of the medical treatments using 5-ASA drugs were working on my UC and decided to try a more agressive treatment. Fast forward to today, and I received my first two hour Remicade infusion. I'm a little nervous about something entering my bloodstream in such a direct manner, but the doctors and nurses claim most patients react well to the treatment overall. From what I can tell there is an active antibody in Remicade that binds to the some proteins in the blood that have been found to cause inflammation and stops them from causing more damage. I've got another treatment in two weeks, so we'll see how it goes.
So far I haven't suffered any side effects aside from a metallic taste in my nose and mouth, and some general tiredness. I hope this works because it woud be nice to get off of the steroids for a bit at least.
Otherwise, I feel like this month is passing fairly quick. J and I may visit Toledo this weekend and go to Cedar Point. On the one hand, I worry about spending the money, but we were good and spent the entire Summer in town, so it would be nice to get out of the city for something fun.
