I figured since I talk about my angry uterus and my fancy prancing vagina so much I should post these images from
Newsweek on the history of birth control.
I love the first image.
I find it interesting (and quite telling) that most birth control methods are geared toward women, and are the woman's responsibility. It's ok to stick a lady in a chastity belt and have her sit in her own filth (I'm sorry small openings for urination?!) but to expect a man to do the same...silliness.
Seeing the images of IUDs and sponges was also fairly sobering. I just met with my doctor the other day to talk about using an IUD, at the time we'd determined that we'd try it, and if it didn't work out I'd go back to the Depo...needless to say I'm having second thoughts. I know that the current IUDs have been tested and what not and there haven't been noted cases of dangerous side effects, but that doesn't mean its the right method for me.
The things women are willing to stick up their vagina's makes me kind of sad.
