I feel like I should follow the trend and apologize for seemingly abandoning my LJ. It's not actually the case, but much of my blogging minutia is covered on my Twitter, and I'm not vain enough to pull my tweets into my LJ (no offense to those that do).
Despite having the flu of some sort the last few days, I feel like I've settled into fall quite nicely. I would never claim fall to be my favorite time of the year, but I think it might be the season that allows my nesting skills to run free. I'm like a little bird gathering things for her nest, making sure we have candles for the fireplace, warm bedding, and insulated windows. Living in Ohio I know that winter could be one rainfall away and I don't want to be caught unprepared.
This weather has also activated my urge to cook more (probably because the oven heat is welcome) and I'm determined to squeeze as many fresh veggies out of the last farmer's markets I can for freezing. This time of year just feels...earthy for lack of a better description. Simple. Monday, we had roast chicken and some veggies from the market; I skinned the leftover carcass and made about 10 cups of chicken broth, which later went into my pumpkin soup along with fresh pumpkin puree from one of the pumpkins we bought at the market; tomorrow I'll use the chicken leftovers to freeze a few pot pies. I find I enjoy that kind of organic simplicity, and more so like finding it in my daily routine.
October has routinely been a good month for me though, three years ago J and I stumbled upon our amazing cat, and it was about this time five years ago that I met J...:) Its been a welcome relief from September, I try not to be too vodoo mystical, but Mercury in retrograde (which it is most of September) is a frakken bitch.
