In my unending search to alleviate my TMJ issues and enjoy a hamburger sometime this summer, I've started going to a chiropractor. I had a doctors appointment last Friday trying to get a second opinion on the x-rays of my spine supposedly fusing together, and the doctor at the office recommended seeing the in-house chiropractor who could teach me some exercises that would help with the pain and get my range of mouth motion back.
Yesterday was my first appointment, and I'm feeling pretty good about it. He confirmed that the bone density test I took in 2003 looked normal, and is waiting for the x-rays to post so he can view them, but he thinks the TMJ specialist wasn't clear in his description of whats going on. We're going to work on my posture which apparently is terrible, he'll crack my back a bit, and he's going to stick his fingers in my face to try to release the TMJ muscles. Not sure how long this will take, but I've got another appointment Friday, and probably another two for the next few weeks until it all gets worked out.
I'm feeling pretty good about this option, I just wish it hadn't taken almost a year for some kind of reasonable solution. I just know next time, whatever the ailment is, I'm going to my GP first, if I'd done that instead of gone off to a dentist I would have avoided all of this mess.
