Before I do anything else today, I want to write up about our trip to Cancun while it's all still fresh in my head. XD
First, well, it was just cool to go to Cancun. If you don't know much about Cancun, it's on the Caribbean, on the east coast of Mexico at the NE of the Yucatan Peninsula, which is surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. So yeah...being on the Caribbean? Gorgeous. I took pictures, but I haven't d/led them to my computer yet, so I'll have to post them up later. >_>
This time we went to Cancun, we actually got to stay at our condos. We own 2 beachfront condos at the Aquamarina Beach resort in the Hotel Zone. Last time we stayed at the Riu Caribe, so we didn't really know what OUR place was like. Now we know. It's pretty nice, it's a smaller resort, which I personally liked a lot because there was just less crazy everywhere, although I suppose there were some limits than what a larger resort would offer, but to me it's nice to be at my place. The view from our room is really good, the balcony was awesome, and from the bed in the morning, I would just stare out at the ocean and watch the birds fly by.
We went ahead and did the all inclusive wristbands because for owners it's $37/day, which is a really great price, especially since it's all you can eat and drink. We arrived around 6pmish so we didn't do much the first night. It started POURING right after we checked in, so we went and had dinner and by the time dinner was over, so was the rain. We took a couple of drinks up to the roof-top spa that we had to ourselves because of the rain earlier and just soaked and watched the clouds fly by. They were really moving fast. It was beautiful.
So yeah...we spent the first day lounging on the beach sipping on tropical drinks melting in our hands and munching on nachos from the snack bar. It was nice and relaxing and lovely. That day while we were sitting on the beach we spotted a dive boat on the next dock over from the ones in front of our resort and went over there to talk to them about scuba diving. YAY for finding a good scuba operator within walking distance from our hotel! It was very awesome! That day, our other friends arrived, so we showed them around a bit, tried out the reservation restaurant at the front of the resort which was good, and we got special coffee that came with a show of fiery purple tequila.
The next day we talked with one of the owners of the dive operator for a while about our week of scuba and set up to go out the next morning. Then we went downtown with all of our friends. Downtown was horrible. It's hotter there for one, since you don't get the ocean breeze, and Cancun is a humid place. We went there to go shopping, but the vendors there were too pushy even for us, and we're the types that go haggling in downtown LA and such too. I've shopped plenty in Mexico, but this place was downright obnoxious. >_> We were so irritated we just left. It was a lot of walking though too, which sucked because like a complete 'tard I didn't rinse my feet from the beach that morning, so I rubbed a horrible blister into my toe next to my pinky toe on my left foot. It was so bad by the time we got back that it was swollen and infected. Sucked. So that was a source of pain for most of the rest of the trip for me. -_-
So on day 3, Sean got sick. Apparently he ate some bad fish the night before and it just killed him. I ended up going scuba diving that morning anyways because our friend staying in our other room was there to get certified. I went with him even though Sean was sick so that he would have one of us there with him while he was doing his certification dives. The diving was AWESOME. I always hear about Cozumel this, Cozumel that, but when we dove in Cozumel 2 years ago when we went to buy the property, the diving sucked. Cancun though, was seriously awesome! It was way better than I expected! We didn't go too far from our hotel either, we just went to the NE point of the hotel zone, near the DREAMS Cancun hotel. The water *was* seriously rough and had a lot of surge and strong currents, but I don't get motion sick so I was fine. A lot of other people got sick though. >_> Including our friend. >_> It was really beautiful though, the reef was full of life and I snapped a bunch of pictures with our underwater camera. I'll post some up later. After diving, we went back to the hotel and Sean was getting worse by the minute, he felt like he was dying and he wouldn't eat and he couldn't warm up even though it was super warm. So I bundled him up in the warmest blanket and forced him to eat bread rolls bite by bite and drink 7up, water and gatorade. He finally warmed up then slept.
The next day Sean was still sick, but we had a trip with all our friends booked for
Chichen Itza, which sucked because again, I had to leave Sean at the hotel to go off. Chichen Itza was really amazing though. It far surpassed my expectations. It was really something. I would highly recommend going if you are ever in the area. The
echo noises that building makes are really something else.
The next day we just chilled at the beach again. Sean was recovered enough to leave the room and sit on the beach, but not much else, so we just relaxed.
The next day we went scuba diving in the cenotes for the first time! It was pretty crazy. We went to the Chac Mool cenote. It was really pretty and the water was very clear. Getting in was kind of like this little cave and it was kind-of scary. >_> There were A TON of divers there though, which kinda sucked. I don't like going diving where you see divers all over the place, it's annoying. The water felt great though, and it was warm. Sean took video with the camcorder, but I left my camera back at the hotel because I wanted to have my light cannon instead.
The next day we went diving in the ocean. Sean got sick after the first dive from the rough water, so we had to drop him off. I did the second dive, because again, our friend with us getting certified was there and I wanted to be there for the last certification dive. That was probably my favorite dive of the whole week actually. It was a shallow reef, only about 30-35ft and we had it all to ourselves. I took a bunch of great pictures and at the end, there were only 3 of us with air left. I had 1100 PSI left after an hour, but we'd finished the reef, so we were going to go ahead and ascend anyways, but then a turtle just came up to the three of us and started swimming with us for like 3-4 minutes. I got a lot of pictures of him, he came right next to me, it was soooo cool. I've dove with plenty of turtles before, but never so close, and never with the turtle coming up to me. He was right next to me and I could have reached out and touched him he was so close. It was wonderful.
The next day we hit the water again, just two shallow dives, which was good because Sean didn't get sick! Yay! The diving was really good again, we got to spend a good 2 hours in the water since the reefs were so shallow. I got a lot of great pictures of the reef, there were schools of fish everywhere, it was great.
The next day we went diving in Taj Mahal cenote. It was our last day to dive and Sean and I both only did the first dive. Sean was still feeling a little sick, and I was having trouble clearing my ears since I was slightly congested, so I sat it out. It was very beautiful at Taj Mahal though, I liked it better than Chac Mool, even though it was a generally darker cavern. It was prettier, the entrance was open and beautiful and there were NOT a lot of other divers. Yay.
After that, we packed up and headed home. My feet got swollen on the airplane back. I don't know how or why, it was really weird, but they were puffy and fat and hurt a lot. I'm still recovering from that a bit actually. I'm just trying to stay off of them. We asked some friends to watch our house and they messed up everything. I've been livid about it for the last two days. SO MAD. I'm sure they had good intentions, but it screwed up my life in a lot of ways. I don't feel like ranting about it right now, but you might hear about it in the next couple of weeks. >_>
And I'm going to leave it at that, there is a lot more, but I wanted to cover the basics of what we did. It was nice to get away from the insanity of my life and just focus on relaxing and diving. We did work from Cancun, I was still listing up new pre-orders on otakufuel and processing orders remotely, and answering emails remotely. Corporate summit is important for breaking away from the everyday and planning out the business plan for the future. We did a lot of that, and made some decisions on what we want to focus on more with our business. I don't think we could have got all that done with our normal work grind, so it was good in a lot of ways.
Okay, done for real now this time. -_- Keh
