Can you give a little of your heart?

To my friends, acquaintances, colleagues and people I've only known in passing, I am asking for your help.

I work closely with the Great Dane Rescue of El Paso. With their help, in June, I rescued an English Mastiff from a home that claimed he was sick and could not eat. The Great Dane Rescue of El Paso let me take Dozer in and provided the much needed care for him. It turned out that he was just so starved he didn't even have an appetite anymore.

We worked with Dozer to learn to eat again, he gained the weight that he should have had all along and went from a 30lb. puppy at 2 months (where he should have been near 45lbs.) to a 60lb. puppy less than two months later. Dozer was completely healthy, got fully vaccinated and tested for heartworm, lyme disease and ehrlichia.

Now the battle was to find him a forever home. The Great Dane Rescue of El Paso took applications and screened families. They called and called back on leads and application information to find the best possible match for this little English Mastiff.

The perfect home was finally found when, Dozer started limping and eventually stopped using his back legs all together. On Monday he was taken to the vet where it was found he had severe hip dysplasia. Today, Dozer and his X rays were taken to a specialist who suggested Dozer's only option was an invasive surgery where they would cut off the ball from his femur bone and let the muscles form a soft joint from the femur to the hip. This is a very expensive operation that is necessary for Dozer to go on living.

Can you help? Can you imagine the pain that Dozer is in? What if both of your femurs were completely out of the sockets and you could barely walk? Can you give a little of your heart?

If you would like to help Dozer, I BEG of you to go to www.gdrescueep.org Mail a check, or click the "Make a donation" button at the bottom of the home page for paypal. Every single dollar helps. $10 from each of you on my friend's list could be just enough to save Dozer's life.
