Homies! So after the Fourth of JULie-Y, which I felt sickly and sluggish for so spent the evening on my favorite hill watching my favorite fireworks with my favorite boy, I spent most of the month beating the heat, nannying (yay for garden hoses) and chilling with my friends. But first, I went on a weekend trip with Damon and his family to attend the wedding reception of a cousin in Illinois: It'll-annoy-us. If you thought things were getting steamy here, you should try there! But I had one afternoon visiting a family friend and frolicking in their pool with my boy, and the reception itself was at a wildlife preserve/viewing area, complete with bison, elk that came up close, distant hot air balloons, fireworks for the hot air balloon festival, long dresses, dinner and dancing. There's no one I'd rather spend 12 hours in a car with than him! Corn rocks.
The next weekend was the best ever (according to a couple people besides myself). Damon putzed out on us so Karen and I went alone with our VIP cards we earned last spring to our favorite club. Right away some guy bought her a shot, and we found out he was an off duty employee, and since he liked us he gave us new VIP cards (ours were about to expire). Again we were the first ones dancing, but then some concert let out and soon the place was almost full! We made more friends out on the balcony (we're going back on the 5th for my 21st birthday so I want the place packed) and soon I realized my foot was bleeding. THEN we made friends with the bouncer who called on his radio for a band-aid for me (cheers to big fusses over tiny things to make you feel special!) and the MC dude, while the bouncer patched me up. The MC begged us to apply to work there. But we had to go back to dancing. Karen met some bassist (I've ALWAYS said bassists are hot) and I danced with his friend visiting from Pennsylvania (yay for no committment or awkward moments!) and we got ourselves some more free drinks. Not one to leave when the party's dying, we set out around 1:30 and the boys watched to make sure we got to our car. But we ran into our friends again--the ones who gave us our cards--and got mardi gras beads souveniers! My third strand, and I still haven't had to earn any flashing like skanky girls do.
Not to be outdone, Damon took the two of us and Adam to a party the next night. We brought him thai food at work and had a picnic, and I was reminded that there was a pool at the guys house and we'd be swimming. So Karen and I used our few hours to find a swimsuit. The VERY last one I tried on was purple crushed velvet wannabe stuff, with little jangles hanging from my sternum and one hip like my bellydance costumes! It was perfect. So we all went swimming and schmoozing, although the boys putzed out on the swimming part early. It was by a lake and had a big moon and was gorgeous. Although then I had to drive all the putzes home. Ah well.
And so the next weekend Karen and some homies were at the beach so I wore the new rocking suit there and met some new and old folks. We went for pizza, Damon got off so he came too. Then I saw her conduct her first kiddie band (so nervous but so poised!), and afterwards, their dress rehearsal for Bye-Bye Birdie, which I highly recommend, very quality community theatre and far better than their Gershwin piece (ew, Gershwin gets a no). Karen rocks. Damon rocks. Free stuff rocks. Happy summer.
