The Chelmsford theatre workshop is an amateur dramatics organisation they work with actors who are ametuers for some reason they haven’t made it big or they don’t want to or they are young actors. Everyone that is a member is a volunteer.
The Chelmsford theatre workshop don’t really work with any company’s, they work with people interested in the performing arts whether it is acting or stage manager.
They are funded through membership. They have 2 types of members
Full and youth members and this allows them to:
audition for parts in all productions
take part in all Workshop activities
receive a monthly copy of the newsletter
receive a discount card entitling them to a reduction of £1 in the published ticket price for all main productions at The Old Court, except Friday and Saturday.
vote at meetings of the Group as set out in Article 9 of the constitution.
They also have patron members these are those who support CTW but do not want to be directly involved in their activities, this allows them to:
receive vouchers for free entrance to three main productions each year
receive a monthly newsletter
are welcome at Workshop meetings but cannot vote at Workshop meetings.
I couldn’t find out how much their average performances cost.
In 1995, CTW won the Civic Award for Service to the Arts from Chelmsford Borough Council. In 1996 there Youth Group won the same award and in 1997 there Artistic Director won the award for her personal contribution.
They produce all sorts of performances from Shakespeare to Shaffer and Berkoff to Beckett.
Chelmsford theatre workshop was started in 1969.
They are based in essex, Springfield Road, Chelmsford.
They are a none profit
Tickets range from 6.00 pounds, but concessions are available except for performances that are on Friday or Saturday.
Performers do not get paid as they are an amateur theatre so nobody in the business gets paid, so the teachers the directors, the actors, the costume designers do not get paid.
Their vision is to get more people into theatre not just acting but other aspects of the performing arts business like stage manager or costume designer.
