I admit that's my secret hope in any abuse case. The idea that even if the victim won't leave, letting her know she CAN may make every difference in her children's lives. I grew up with domestic abuse in the household, and while my story took a very unusual turn and ended up with the fairytale ending every abuse victim thinks can happen - which is why I don't tell them about about - my mother still made sure every one of us girls would never, ever put up with it. I owe her for that.

I love Irey and Jai! I didn't think I would - I mean, I didn't think I'd hate them or anything - but they just clicked for me. I think it helped that we had that goofy office gossip bit as inspiration, because it meant there HAD to be open affection between them, not just snippy sulkiness.

Iris was such a toughy to get right, because I didn't want her to be immature, but I also wanted her to ... just not get it. To want to Do the Right Thing and have justice prevail, even though she knows the world doesn't work like that. It SHOULD and she keeps acting like if she does her part to make the world fair, it will be.
