To echo the rambler, I must say that Persuasion was good! Of course, I compare everything to the original P&P with Colin Firth so Persuasion wasn't amazing but it was good nonetheless. It was a really solid adaptation for only one and half hours but why not just draw the whole thing out? It's Austen--why do it in under two hours when you can use six?
I recently read Persuasion (I was supposed to read for some S1ck3r class but didn't because he was going to tell me what I should think of it anyway--how I miss him!). After I read it I was surprised that it hadn't been made into a feature film yet. The story is interesting and I think more captivating to the average American movie goer than say, Sense and Sensibility or Mansfield Park?
One question about Persuasion: If Anne is considered almost past her prime at 27 years old, then why is her older sister Elizabeth not treated the same? Did I miss something? Is Elizabeth a widow already? Is it just because she's more fashionable than Anne and held in higher regard by her ridiculous father because she's better looking? Hmmm. I wondered this when I read the novel too. Anne's story is great but it kind of relies on the whole age thing to work.
BTW--I'll post when if I find out a rerun of P or the next novel's premiere.
