Tuva is awesome because of it's curly-toed boots, and it's throat singing.
There was a Tuvan musical group at school today called Alash, and they were FABulous. If you've never heard Tuvan throat singing, you're missing out. It is simply staggering what the human body can be trained to do. Their singing is very deep and gruff and rather harsh sounding at first, but then the sound somehow tips to the back of the throat and starts to make a humming, buzzing, whining sound that is completely inhuman, except for the fact that it's coming from one. It's just not the sort of sound you would ever associate with the human body.*
Did I mention the coolest boots?
Oh... and they live in yurts. Totally want to go to Tuva one day. :D
Kiln opens tomorrow! Woot.
Did you know that the Etruscans invented safety pins?
I went today and saw gold leafed safety pins from the 5th century BC today. Totally awesome.
And Olafur Eliasson is awesome. Go see an exhibition of his work if you ever get the chance.
Eliasson: Making better art through the cunning use of SCIENCE!!
MWAHAHAHAH!!!
It made me happy in my soul.
