I went to the Opera last night.
Looking FABulous in my red vintage hat, red heels, and hand-me-down fur stole.
It was totally old-lady chic, and loads of fun.
Mom took me to see Die Fledermaus, "The Bat."
Now, I rather hate classic opera, the kind with fat singers and horned helmets, so I almost said no, but I am very glad that I decided to go with my current life philosophy:
Just do it. New experiences are always worthwhile.
Plus it was an excuse to dress up. ;)
I think this one classifies more as an operetta. I do so love some operettas. The Mikado will forever hold a special place in my heart. The plot amused me, and there were some very funny random parts. I would absolutely love to see it in it's original language. Or any of the plays it was based off of. I love foreign languages.
Yeah, not to spoil it or anything, but the entire thing is a plot for revenge:
Two men go to to a masquerade, one as a bat and one as a butterfly. The bat gets sloshed, and the butterfly offers him a ride home. The butterfly instead leaves him on a bench by the church, so he is left to wander home on a Sunday morning, hung-over and dressed as a bat.
Yes, it is the Bat's revenge! Mwahahahahah.
Isn't that great?
Oh, and it had a Sarah Palin joke in it.
And apparently vodka cures opera. At least according to the jailer, who was tormented day and night by the crooning of one of his inmates, who was an operatic tenor.
Anywho... It was fun. So, if you have a chance to do something new, even if you think you will hate it, go anyways. You may be missing out.
And you can always sneak in some vodka. ;)
