Here's the clever thing. It's not just people I'd like to meet, it's people I'd like to sit down among and have longer conversations. That's a different type of group, I think. Because, yeah I'd like to meet Bruce Campbell or G. Del Toro or Lewis Carroll but 1. I don't really want to talk at length with them, 2. I don't speak Spanish (in Del Toro's case, not sure how his English is) and 3. I don't want to be stuck talking Math at any point (in Carroll's case).
So I only get 4... I debated different areas, politicians/artists/musicians/psychologists/activists/scientists/etc... I think I would really enjoy talking to authors the most though. Not that I have much aspiration to be a writer, I just think that they would be the easiest to talk to and have the most interesting dinner conversation. So I went with-
1. Neil Gaiman - amazing storyteller and overall positive and friendly person
2. Warren Ellis - fantastic sense of humor
3. Felicia Day - also overall positive and friendly person, not to mention incredibly talented and funny (she tied with Joss Whedon but I thought Day might be easier to talk to for longer period of time, maybe just because of how open and talkative she is online)
and
4. Catherynne Valente - wordsmith genius with such varied knowledge (and anyone who can describe the feeling of autumn so precisely to evoke exactly how I see/smell/feel autumn is good people in my book)
I also think these people would get along well and have things in common with each other, another important dinner party aspect. I know I only picked living people but the main dead person I thought of was Lovecraft (because I would love to find out how that guy ticked) but he didn't rank nearly as high as the others.
