Warren Ellis
I've only ever seen An Evening with Kevin Smith but I've just discovered An Evening with Warren Ellis. I don't know if "An Evening With..." is a thing but I don't watch a lot of interviews and things like that, really just some extended Neil Gaiman interviews. Ellis is so fucking hilarious, I really cannot believe I haven't heard him speak before. I mean I've read lots of his stuff, anything I can get my hands on, so I expected the wit and the non-stereotypical British...ness. I didn't expect to see this gigantic, bald, bearded man drinking red bull, blowing his nose, dropping f bombs, stifling burps... all like he was just sitting on the other side of my couch telling me stories in my living room. It was fucking brilliant.
I wish I could describe why I like Warren Ellis so much (as much as Neil Gaiman, if anyone would believe it of me) because it's not just the wit and creativity of the stories, it's also the absolutely nauseatingly disgusting scenes in his stories. Those things just captivate me, makes me think like, if THAT's in here he really didn't hold back on anything. Makes the work feel more unleashed.
I do hope he steers clear of censored media when doing interviews and things like this. It just wouldn't be the same.
