Ok.. I said I was going to post the details.. and I've got a minute so here they go...
Tuesday night I went to bell choir practice (starts at 7) and a little after I got there I started feeling little contractions (nothing major.. just braxton-hicks contractions)... they weren't frequent and hardly worth much notice.. after it was done (practice) we went to hardee's for a quick dinner to go, (yaknow, burger and fries)... The contractions were getting harder and more frequent (felt like period cramps.. but the memory of contractions is fading fast..) We went home (and on the way I told Doug every time I had one so he knew and could kinda time them by the odometer in the car ~no clock~ *sigh*) Still, they weren't really regular or bad...
It felt like bad cramps by the time we got home so I got in a hot bath to kinda sooth away the achy-ness and kept telling Doug when each one was..
It turned out I was contracting every 6 minutes apart.
We called Doug's mom (who's an OBGYN/delivery nurse at the hospital I delivered Aislinn at) and told her... she said to wait another 30 min and call back to let her know what was going on.. so we did.. still every 6 min, but there were random ones in the middle.. She also told me to wait until they were totally unbearable before I went to the hospital... I thought about it and realized that most likely it was pretty hard and I should actually go in.. (we didn't want to rush off and have them send me home because Doug had to be at work at 6:30 the next morning ~Aislinn's birthday~)... We loaded all of my stuff (and me) into the car and went..
When we got to the hospital I walked up and waited while Doug parked the car and then I walked in and to the counter (it's not right where you come in.. you kinda have to know where you're going to get there *lol*)... When I got up to the desk the nurse looked up at me and said "How can we help you tonight" and I replied with a very confused face (clutching my comfort pillow like a kid holding a favorite stuffed animal) "I think I'm in labor."
They got my name and found my papers and took me to room 116 and had me get undressed... I got the gown on and got on the bed and they strapped the monitors to my big belly and then they checked to see how dilated I was..
The nurse missed my cervix on the first go because it was so thin (so she said) and then asked me when I had been to the Dr. last, and how far dilated I was (I had been on Monday, and I was still 1.5 at the time)... I told her and she looked at me and said "and the contractions aren't that bad?" and I said "No, not really" and she just stared at me and said "Well, you're at 4 now.. You're not going home. We'll call your Doctor and NurseMom"
At that point everyone left (even Doug, he had to get my bag and other pillows!)
Well, lesse.. the contractions continued, and I waited a long bit before I got even a pain duller put into my IV (I was getting sleepy, and so was annoyed with the constant interruptions of the contractions) After that, I waited till I was about 9 cm before I opted for the epidural (I wanted to push, they said "No No, not yet!" *shrug*... also, I needed some minor surgery, and decided I might as well get the benefits of eased labor!)
They were putting the epidural in and I kept asking if they were done yet.. the lady finally had me lay back and I was waiting for the "instant relief" that everyone tells me about.. Nothing happened.. so I asked about it and the lady looked up at the machine and said "Oh.. let me turn it on" *laughing*
After that, (and yes, it's really pretty instant.. and it's a wonderful relief) I fell asleep.
Next thing I know NurseMom is telling me to push (but I cant feel anything.. so how can I push??)... I pushed only for an hour (and once they set me in the stirrups, I felt like I was going to fall off the bed...*laughing*) I was scrunched up when Aislinn came out so I actually got to see her while she was still attached to me.. it was really awesome (and I mean it literally.. an instant that inspires great awe).. The Doctor looks at me and said "It's a girl" and I think I said "Hello Aislinn" but I was so tired...
Next, they ask Doug if he wants to cut the cord, he says no, they asked again, he said no again.. finally I said "No, he doesn't want to cut the cord" .... then Aislinn was laying on my belly and the Doctor got to the surgery and the stitches (I didn't get an epsiotomy, and had only 2 little tears)...
When all was said and done.. it was about 4:30 (but she was born at 3:01)
So that's the details of her birth (I've prolly forgot some stuff.. it's true, you get amnesia after the baby's born ~about the labor, etc..~)
